(3) Release Penalties • You are obligated to pay 50% of the player's salary for 2 seasons rather than just 50% the current year's salary as it is now

Can we add an option for duration of contract? If you sign a contract you have to pay the whole thing. There isn't really a down side to a long term deal. Then there would not have to be a max length contract.

I agree with Logan with this one. if you sign someone to a 5yr contract.. then you should have to be penalized for 5yrs if you decide he no longer fits your team. I think its ridiculous how many 5yr contracts are handed out in the NFL league. In MLB, if they sign someone long term, that contract is theirs. Its guarenteed money. Can you add a 3rd option saying that. Penalize for all years of contract.

I agree with them on this one should be penalized for all years signed. Also if we inherit a no flat AAS then it has to be that way or people will just back load the contract then drop them and pay nothing.

Guys you have to keep in mind
1. How hard this will be to track year to year 2. How we would be penalizing owners who may take over teams in the future who had nothing to do with bad contracts that were made years before and are now being penalized.
I put a lot of time into thinking over the options that I put for vote. Penalizing a team for all years of the contract was something I considered and didn't think was a good idea

Can we vote on it? Because I think there is an overwhelming majority that think other wise. I think people sign some guys to longer contracts because they wont be penalized. I think having that rule in place will keep contract signings under control a bit. You can also put restrictions on how long contracts can be depending on amounts.

I was thinking, the teams that have to release players to meet the new salary cap guidelines. Do they have to take a 50% hit on the salaries? Wouldn't it be fair to give them free releases to get down to the new salary cap? I think it's good that all teams compete with the same salary cap but to penalize these teams does seem a bit harsh to me. Has this already been decided on and I just don't see it? Or should it be a topic of discussion in the off-season?

Well, all of this was discussed in off season and given a year and off season to prepare for the move down for some teams. It isnt quite fair that a lot of teams play at $110 and incur penalties for drops. So free drops for the teams that play with 30M more isnt fair either. the penalties are only for this season so as long as you drop them before the end of the year, you will not incur penalties next year.
